FLU SEASON IS HERE

It’s time to get vaccinated!
The CDC recommends that everyone 6 months and older get their yearly flu vaccine as soon as they become available. Pregnant women are also advised to get the flu shot.

Influenza (the flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. Approximately 5-20% of U.S. residents get the flu each year. Flu season typically starts in the fall and peaks in January or February. Illness from seasonal flu usually last one to two weeks. Getting the flu vaccine is your best protection against the flu.

The 2017-2018 flu vaccine is designed to protect you against the influenza viruses that research tells us are the most likely to spread and cause illness. Facey Medical Group if offering a four component (quadrivalent) formulation of the influenza vaccine. This formulation will protect you against an Influenza A/Michigan/45/2015 (H1N1)pdm09 – like virus, an A/Hong Kong/4801/2014 (H3N2) –like virus and a B Brisbane/60/2008 – like virus (Victoria lineage) and a B/Phuket/3073/2013 – like virus (Yamagata lineage.)

Important 2017-2018 Flu Season Update

The CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) continues to advise against using the quadrivalent (LAIV4), which is given by nasal spray, not be used in any setting during the upcoming flu season.

Facey Medical Group is following this recommendation and will not be offering Flu Mist for the 2017-2018 influenza season. We will offer the flu injections for all Facey patients ages 6 months and older. The CDC continues to recommend an annual influenza vaccination for everyone ages 6 months and older.

This upcoming flu season, Facey will provide flu vaccines to our patients at each of our locations. Each site will have a schedule for walk-in flu shots. The vaccine will also be available for patients who have scheduled a visit with their primary care physician or OB/GYN, at the offices listed below.
